For this Unit 1 assignment I chose the issue of Sarah Palin being John McCains running mate. There has been much discussion since the Republican convention of her not being qualified enough or possibly changing her positions on several issues. Yet at the same time she has breathed life back into the McCain campaign which has closed the gap with Obama in the polls. She is an outsider of Washington unlike here competitor Joe Biden so it will be interesting to see how Gov. Palin can influence the race.

The editorial I selected was published on September 10th in the Chicago Tribube and was written by Clarence Page. In the article Page argues how the Sarah Palin pick for McCain may backfire mainly because of her lack of experience and how some of her positions on the issues may have changed over the years.

I am so glad you have picked this topic because I think it will be very interesting to see how things play out in the election with her on the ticket.

Kelly,
I am doing a topic very similar to this and I find that presidential qualifications is a big issue in the election. It is discussed almost every time an argument arises and it makes me question who may be ready for the job and who needs more time to be prepared. Although people are arguing that Palin is not yet ready, many others argue that Obama is even less prepared, yet is running for an office higher than Palin. It will be interesting to see what else comes up in the next few weeks on this subject.
